“Sand Sculpture Artists Dig the Beach at Birch Bay.
Everyone is an artist each summer during Birch Bay's beach sand sculpture competitions. During this event, Birch Bay's tide flats fill with ambitious sand-crafters of all ages and levels of experience”
“KITTY
KOZY” AND “POOCH POUCH”
Jen wears the new WeSNIP hands-free “Kitty Kozy” and “Pooch Pouch”. A kitten settles in the “Kozy” and will snooze peacefully as Jen goes about her tasks. A beagle puppy is loaded into the larger “Pouch”. When settled down in the pouch, the puppy will sleep and Jen will be able to use both hands to help the other animals.

Stara helped a Mom complete a registration form in the dark. The Spay Station stayed overnight in Toad’s parking lot and was ready for the staff when they arrived.

Pups and kitties waited with their families....
Toots, the Border Collie/mix. Her Mom saw an advertisement for her on Craig’s List. Max, the 5 month-old Tuxedo/Siamese mix, was also listed on Craig’s List. His mom saw the Spay Station at Toad’s.

Frisbee is a 5 month-old Bichon/Shih Tzu mix. Her Mom’s daughter bought her as a gift. She heard about the Spay
Station from a friend who had her dog neutered there. Cheech, the year-old Papillion/mix was adopted from Eastern Washington. Mom’s daughter’s friend had her kitty spayed on the Spay Station.

Kitties waited to board......

Leroy (Brown), the 7 month-old Jack Russell lives with his dog Mom and Dad. He was the last of his litter to be adopted – by then his family had fallen love with him. His Mom saw a flyer at Labels consignment store in Bellingham. Casino, the 8 week-old tabby, was found starving in the parking lot of the Northwood Casino. His Dad saw a flyer for the Spay Station at Yorky’s mini mart in Blaine.

The staff carried on early morning tasks. Chrystal hauled clean towels. Patricia arrived to check the schedule. Starra and Cindy continued registration.

Thoreau,
Sunny, and Oz (WeSNIP mascots extradinaire) waited patiently in their cars.

Dog boarding began.
Norma, the 6 year-old long haired Dachshund, was a gift from her Mom’s husband. Her Mom heard about the Spay Station from her granddaughter.

Thirteen month-old Addie waited in line with her Mom. Addie is going to be a Service Dog. Her Mom saw an ad for her in the Echo.

Cheech’s Mom holds him while another family member explains to Kat that Cheech had been abused and was wary and unfriendly with strangers. Hmmmmmmmmmm, looks like Kat quickly won him over.

“Bad,
bad Leroy Brown, badder than a junkyard dog”, was handed
to Kat, and promptly gave her a big smooch.

New registration
volunteer, Barb, Cindy, and Starra confer after registration is
completed. Kitty loading time started.

(Orange) Julius waited patiently as his
Mom checked him in. He was from a friend’s litter of
kittens. His Mom saw a flyer on the bulletin board at Fred
Meyer.

Cheryl arrived with several feral kitties. She works at the Video Impact espresso stand across the street from Toad’s. Patricia loaned her WeSNIP traps to help her start to manage a “feral colony” near her home. Chrystal helped load the carrier.
At day’s end, the families gathered for discharge instructions. Belle, the orange tabby girl, sleeps peacefully while waiting to go home.

Chrystal hands off a happy puppy.

Cheech was carried off and handed to his Mom.

Frisbee
waited patiently as Chrystal adjusted an “E” collar for him.

LeRoy bounded down the steps and into his Mom’s welcoming arms as Kat gave individual instructions.

Birch Bay businesses that give us special support:
The Video Impact is located across the street from Toad’s. The staff hand out flyers and refer their clientele to the Spay Station. Barista Randi smiles while making a latte.
Tammy and Dave, owners of the Bay Cafe, post the Spay Station flyer prominently in front of their cafe. Their sweet kitty, Mickey Blue Eyes, was neutered on the Spay Station. Tammy talks to many customers about her great experience with his surgery

Joy’s dog, Thoreau, was adopted from WHS as a “runner”. During the worst snow storm last winter, Thoreau got out. After having a fun run, he decided it was time to go home so he went to the Bay Cafe. It seemed like a great place to find
warmth, friendly people, and maybe a snack. Dave kindly drove him home in his 4 – wheel drive truck.

And............... a special HUGE thank you to the management and staff at Toad’s for hosting the Spay Station, handing out flyers, and helping the Spay Station staff – always with a smile.
