WeSNIP NEWS

February 21, 2011

Thanks to your support and some small grants, WeSNIP will start up again in the spring. Watch for the schedule on our website soon. We still need your financial support to continue our important work. The shelters are already beginning to get kittens and pregnant kitty moms. Our goal is to spay and neuter as many kitties and dogs as possible – from low income and state/federal supported families who cannot afford the services of local veterinarians.

“The $10 -A - Month Club”

is a great and easy way for continued contribution. (See information below and on our website: http://www.wesnip.org/)

During the January/February break, the staff and volunteers have been hard at work doing some re-organization and education outreach to the community. Everyone is anxious to re-start spay and neuter surgeries in Whatcom County.

Patricia Maass, our coordinator, and Dr. Karen Mueller, president, recently spoke at the Kiwanis Club in Bellingham. They also brought the Spay Station for the members to tour. (The Station was sparkly and shiny due to the hard work of several people, including Leana Smith who scrubbed the floor on her hands and knees).

announced Patricia and Dr. Karen's talk in their newsletter

“We turned 89 last week. No, we are not going to the Dogs, but our guest speaker Tuesday will have something to do with animals! Come visit”

WeSNIP thanks the Kiwanis for their interest in our program and mission.

In other good news, along with a grant, we received the following letter from Clare Haggarty, Director of Programs of NAVS (National Anti-Vivisection Society):

“On behalf of the board, staff and donors of the NAVS, I am so pleased to award WESNIP with a NAVS Sanctuary fund grand. We are in absolute awe. Spaying and neutering over 7,000 animals in two years is simply extraordinary. And the fact that you are now beginning to see the "fruits" of your work at the local humane society is so hopeful for other communities”.

NAVS MISSION

The National Anti-Vivisection Society is a national, not-for-profit educational organization incorporated in the State of Illinois. NAVS promotes greater compassion, respect and justice for animals through educational programs based on respected ethical and scientific theory and supported by extensive documentation of the cruelty and waste of vivisection. NAVS' educational programs are directed at increasing public awareness about vivisection, identifying humane solutions to human problems, developing alternatives to the use of animals, and working with like-minded individuals and groups to effect changes which help to end the suffering of animals.

WeSNIP thanks The NAVS for their donation and kind words.

There are several fund raising projects in the works.

The volunteers who put together our successful fall Garage Sale are in the planning stages for another one in early April. Watch for more information about donating goods, volunteering and supporting the event.

Tammy Pearce, who spearheaded “Foodstock” last year, is beginning to plan an event of music and fun benefitting WeSNIP. She posted the following note on the Tammyfoodstock Facebook page:

“Everyone: The event will not be called Foodstock as it will benefit WeSnip Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic. Can you come up with a great name for our festivals to cover all animal related fundraising? The winner will get 2 free tickets to our next event! Thanks so much!”

Tammy will have more information about the festival in the weeks to come.
